Welcome to the Truth Booth, an innocuous-looking hut located not too far from the house, though you have to pass through a rather dense copse of palm trees and you can only make this journey with one other person.

Completely at odds with the outward appearance, the inside of the hut has white tiled floors and an almost clinical appearance. Those wishing to test their compatibility for the week must clasp hands and stand in the center of the room, where they will be scanned to determine whether they are (or not) a Perfect Match. Facing them is a screen displaying their Highly Flattering Pictures and when the scanning is complete, the truth will also flash on their screen.

So step right up. It's the only way to know for sure.

Sounds delightful.

[ With the offer of walking while they talk, he nods, falling right into pace of Rufus. Honestly, there is something very appealing of how the man takes the lead like this. ]

Hm, if the fates are so kind to us. It'd be nice if it was.

[ Instincts and all. It's been pleasant. That aside... ]

Even if we're not, I'd still like the chance to chat more.

[He grins at Zagreus as they continue down the path, breeze shuddering the leaves lazily above them.]

Did I leave that positive of an impression?

[It’s half a joke. He may have a high opinion of himself, but flattery is often taken at face-value. This time, though, he is at least intrigued.]

I don’t see why not. No point in cutting our vacation short just because someone finds their match early. I still want to have fun — something tells me you’re of the same mind.

[ Those whole... everything is so soothing. He takes in a deep breath of air, savoring not only the company in this case. ]

Well, of course. It wasn't just for the dogs that I picked you.

[ Maybe it was a good excuse to use, but Rufus did leave a good first impression, at least. ]

Of course. No reason not to enjoy it to its fullest. There's still a lot of interesting people and things besides finding that perfect someone.

Exactly. I don’t blame anyone for enjoying themselves fully, and I’m glad you understand, Zagreus.

[There are many things that Rufus is a stickler for, that he’s stark and strict about in that cold way of his — but having fun during a mini-vacation, away from his Planet, enjoying the company of strangers? Not so much. His reputation is important to him, but he has to admit, being free from it is oddly entertaining.

Anyway, the Mysterious Hut draws closer!!]

[ That freedom is nice. Makes him hope just a bit more that this whole matchmaking session goes in their favor. He'd also mention that there's something that reminds him of someone at home... but that almost feels unfair, comparing him to someone else. ]

Makes you wonder how this is supposed to figure out if you're the perfect match or not.

[ Though, really, only one way to find out. Which is exactly what they're here to do as they get even closer. ]

[The path is sandy up until they reach the entrance of the hut, met by a closed door. Rufus raps his knuckles on the outside of it.]

Your guests are here.

[—he says, to anyone who may be inside, before deeming a whole two seconds enough time to wait. Quirking his brow at Zagreus, he turns to the door again and just… opens it for them.

It’s fine, they’re expected.]

[ indeed they are. They step inside into a room that looks more clinical than anything. The tiles are white and glossy, the walls are dark and the only thing of interest to look at is the screen in front of them. It shows the following: ]

[ There are two different-colored tiles in the center of the room that they can stand on. They can hold hands if they want! ]

[ He peers around the room curiously once they've gone inside. ]

I expected more to it. Maybe a person or two. [ There's a vague motion at their faces one the screen. ]

Still don't know how this is going to give us our answer, but shall we?

[ It does seem a little obvious what they're supposed to be doing here, but he has been a victim to a few traps, so he's a little bit wary of colored tiles on the floor. ]

[Oh, this reminds him of the rooms over at Shinra HQ, maybe a place stolen from one of the more mundane laboratories reserved for low-level scientists. It’s almost shocking to see it, and he glances around to spot the obvious: their portraits, and the two different tiles to stand on.

Rufus walks forward, brow cinched.]

At least they picked flattering photos. Credit where it’s due.

[Walking over to a tile, he eyes it. He’s less suspicious than he is curious, and he takes a bold, testing step.]

I have a feeling we’re playing the part of subjects. [Ah, the irony. Anyway, he gestures at the other tile.] See what happens?

[ When nothing happens with the tile initially, Zagreus is relieved that Rufus is okay. Maybe that is a little paranoid of him, but he's experienced a few things.

Either way, he walks toward the other tile and takes his place next to Rufus. There's a bit of a grin about the photos. ]

I do have to say, I much prefer the real thing over the photo, though.

[ Zagreus, please. Stop flirting. ]

[ Oh, you kids.

This music begins softly in the background as Rufus claims his tile, growing louder and louder as Zagreus also moves to take his place. Green light appears from ankle-level, running up and down over them as though something is scanning them.

There's a pause for calculation as the screen in front of them brightens.

THE MUSIC IS GOING HAM. ]

[ And then, finally, the lights come back on in the booth, the music cuts off abruptly and the screen changes to show the following: ]

[ They can get out now! ]

[That sure is a choice of music. Rufus eyes the whole process skeptically as he’s being scanned, and when the results finally display—

Well. That’s disappointing. An early win, not so much of a win after all. He clicks his tongue.]

Fate wasn’t on our side today.

[Alas, a wish delayed. It’s fine — expectations shouldn’t run too high this early on, and he can adjust as needed. He steps off his tile.]

That’s disappointing.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that finds the results disappointing.

[ The wish is a factor, too, of course. It is what really brought him to this place.

He lets out a soft sigh, then gives him a wry smile. ]

At least we can still enjoy each other's company regardless.

[ He starts toward the door, but not in a rush to leave Rufus behind here, either. ]

[He follows Zagreus out. They can both be content that they’re not out of the game, at least — and maybe it's beneficial, ruling out one individual for certain. If they’re playing a numbers game, the odds have risen incrementally in their favor.

Though they were there just a minute ago, the outside air is refreshing. Open and warm, compared to the interior of the hut.]

Still hoping to see what they all have in store for us. I’ll seek you out in the event of anything particularly interesting.

And even outside of that, you make for a good drinking partner.
