Welcome to a new week, lovebirds! Monday dawns gray and misty, and it's actually not long before a thunderstorm rolls in! You can, of course, kiss dramatically in the yard in the rain and risk getting struck by lightning-- or you can stay inside, cuddle in the conversation pit, USE THE GODDAMN BOOM BOOM ROOM or do anything else until the storm blows over by the evening! Don't worry, the rest of the week will be bright and sunny and beautiful!

There's also a new section of the house, weirdly enough! There's a bright turquoise door located near the bedroom and opening it leads to... a massive indoor pool. The water is a pleasant temperature, there's a hot tub, there's an assortment of flotation devices for those of you who might have trouble swimming (tubes, life vests, boogie boards, pool noodles that can also be used to wage Deadly Combat if you are Sara and Kasque or Jeritza or anyone else ready for Violence). And if you somehow didn't pack a swimsuit because why on earth would your canon let you have one--

Worry not!! There's a rack of swimsuits in every size you lot could need! The catch (or not): they're all sexy. Like. Barely there sexy. Impossibly adhering to you sexy. Shoelaces would maybe cover more sexy. Absolutely great to play Chicken Fight in sexy. You get the idea.

Anything having to do with being able to write is still also Not Present.

[It's not the first time she's been met with some confusion. It really seems as if the terminology might be unique to her home. People in this house who look like the tallmen she knows have all preferred "human" so far.

She tilts her head to the side curiously.] You don't know of elves or other races where you come from?

[Her ears are rounded, but they're still recognizable to Marcille as far different from his own. Maybe he just thought they were extra long... how silly.]

That explains the ears. I was guessing you were some kind of fairy.

[ there's a tone of resignation in his voice. Part of his brain is saying "you should be more bothered by this," but he can't bring himself to freak out about it. It's just like... whatever.... this might as well happen......... his life has become so weird in the past year. You could almost call it......... a bizarre adventure. ]

We've only got humans where I'm from. [ a beat. ] You're not the type of elf who seduces and kidnaps people, right?

[saucerous]

[Marcille's eyes widen, and she leans back. The question takes her by surprise.]

Uh, that doesn't really sound like an elf.


That sounds like a kidnapper.

[Now that she's rebutted that misguided characterization of elves, Marcille blows out one of her cheeks.] Not that elves don't fall in love, obviously! And there are plenty of elven-run prisons. [Most of them, even.]

[comelately]

[ elven-run prisons... he wonders what her train of thought was to lead to her blurting that out. He looks a little skeptical, but lets it go. ]

I figured. That's the folklore 'round where I'm from. Elves aren't "real," so people just make up stuff like that. [ a beat. ] I mean I was joking. I don't think you'd seduce and kidnap anyone.

[ probably. ]

[Probably.

It's a pretty offensive picture of those "not real" elves that he paints, but Marcille tries to wave it off with a twitch of her ears.]

I guess whether different races exist where you're from or not, nobody's immune to rumors and stereotypes, right?

[It's a little weird to think of a world where different people's aren't just absent, but mythological. People like her, as if she herself were just some character in a novel.]

Honestly, if I had my choice I'd go with a nice night of music or a dinner with extra candlelight. If anyone's stealing anyone away, maybe they'd pick me up on the back of their magnificent steed and spirit me away, something like that.

[ johnny continues to be clueless that he said anything offensive... i'm so sorry marcille

on the other hand, the ears move?! He's momentarily distracted by the twitch, but the rest of what she says seems to pique his interest, too. ]

Uh... really? [ this time, he's aware his tone sounds a little judgemental, so he waves a hand quickly. ] I mean - not in a bad way. That sounds kinda like what I was hoping for, too. Except I'd be the guy on the horse.

[saucerous]

[She's paid attention to profiles and some of the other things, so what Johnny said shouldn't surprise her. Then again, he'd dismissed his own idea of a perfect date as cheesy, so she'd taken his embarrassment as mocking at first, or at least dismissive.]

You'd like to be someone's knight, huh? I can see it...you'd definitely be the heroic, self-sacrificing type. [Also not judgmental; if anything, it's a little wistful, as she's pondering it over. She gives him a genuine smile.]

Maybe even an element of high stakes... stealing away together, or traveling somewhere far away. It's pretty idealistic. Pretty unobtainable, even. I knew that much before coming here, even if I really wished it would be that easy to find something like that.

[ it's somehow more embarrassing when someone else says it to him - especially a cute-looking girl, telling him she can imagine him as the heroic self-sacrificing type?! ]

I dunno about all that...

[ he's flushing a little, but trying to hide it by looking off to the side. No way is he a knight in shining armor. He focuses on the rest of what she said, instead. ]

Things like that can happen if you're in the right place at the right time. [ he idly picks at a thread coming off one of the stars on his pants. ] Last year, I traveled across the entire country on horseback with my best friend, with the whole world against us, hunting us down... Or it felt like the world, at least. Just the same as you're describing - well, minus the romance.

[ it was definitely a Completely Platonic Bromance. definitely. ]

It was really hard, but... at the same time, it's probably the best thing I ever did. [ an awkward pause; he realizes he's been talking a lot. probably because he got embarrassed. ] Uh... I guess what I'm saying is that I know what you mean. It'd be easier to fall in love on an adventure like that than being on this dinky island.

[saucerous]

[Is it more or less embarrassing when she leans over as far as she possibly can, completely starry-eyed at the thought of his Romantic (if not romantic) adventure cross-country with his totally platonic bro]

That sounds exactly like the sort of thing that would draw two people closer together... I've been adventuring for a few years now. It never felt all that noble or romantic, but I'll also never be able to turn around and forget all of that happened, as long as I live.

[Even something like making an enemy out of powerful people, being chased by those opposing forces ... In reality, it's terrifying, but it all got her closer to her dream, and to this.]

It's nice here because you don't have to worry about anything going wrong. But it's just as easy to take advantage of that safety to lock away things about ourselves. Look at that, I'd have never guessed you'd took on the whole world before, but I'm glad you told me.

[ more embarrassing!! girls used to hang off his every word back in the day, but it's different now. Back then, he was a superstar - it didn't matter what he was saying. Now, he's just some loser. Is this what they call "the mortifying ordeal of being known?!" He shrugs. ]

I wouldn't have guessed I'd have anything in common with a 50-year-old lady, but I'm not mad about it. [ a small smirk. ] What're you looking for? If you're out traveling, you must be trying to get somewhere.

[saucerous]

Seriously, you sound so young when you say that. You'd better not have any problems with it. [Marcille tsks. It's difficult to wrap her mind around how anyone else ages. Her 50 looks nothing like another person's.

His question, however, makes her rock a little bit. There are a lot of things she's looking for, and it's a difficult question to answer directly. There's what she's starting to look for on the island now that the initial sparkle of romantic idealization is starting to blunt, and what she's looking for in the dungeon, and what she's only just recently realized she can obtain with the limited power of a wish.]

Right now, I'm looking for a way to save my friend. And what I'm wishing for is going to help everything turn out okay. And I think it'll be a good wish for when I leave here, too.

[comelately]

[ well, he is the youngest person here! His smile turns a little mischievous at that, but he lets it go, especially since her answer is a little more serious. Serious, and familiar, too. Johnny nods. ]

That's awfully nice of you. Are they sick?

[ it must be something serious like that to go on a multi-year travel, right? ]

[saucerous]

No... If it was something like that, I might have been able to address it on the surface.

[She sighs, placing both hands over her knees and staring at the places where her fingers cross.] My friend got into a lot of trouble protecting the rest of us, and we've been trying to reunite with her ever since. For a while, things really felt like they'd never have a happy ending. Seriously, two steps forward and three steps back...no matter how we hurried, it's taken a long time.

[comelately]

[ Johnny hums, seeming to understand. ]

"The best shortcut is the long way around." [ he's clearly quoting something, but he doesn't elaborate. ] Sometimes the hard path's the one you have to take to win, even if it seems slower.

[ he tilts his head at her a little, quizzical. ]

It sounds like you're getting closer to your "happy ending," though.
