❤ Week 4 Mingle

Welcome to your final week, lovebirds(???)!

The weather is perfect, nothing funky going on this week. The house might feel a little more spacious with less people in it after last week, but. It's fine. Things are slowly coming to a close, after all.

But not before two new rooms have appeared in the house. One room leads into a very impressive home movie theater, complete with popcorn maker and concession stand for the true moviegoer experience. A variety of movies will always be playing, from old westerns, black-and-white classics, Oscar nominations, and animated flicks. Also romcoms. Duh.

For those who wish to be a bit more active, the other new room is a little colder because-- it's an ice-skating rink. There are skates in everyone's size and a few padded benches by a vending machine that will dispense hot drinks if you need to warm up.

Anything having to do with being able to write remains Sir Not Appearing In This Show.

[ Ash did show up, but once he hears the challenge this week, he kinda wonders why he bothered. He's in his usual clothes today (which means four belts and a good amount of layers) so he's not actually in bad shape for this challenge but—]

...really? I'll pass, thanks. [ Looks to Yoosung which is an improvement, at least! ] What do you wanna do instead?

[Yoosung wore this dark sweater and jacket, dressing warmly in case they had to go to the ice rink or something. If he was in his usual outfit, he'd have probably tried passing his various pins off as individual clothing articles. But maybe he also wanted to look more mature, and recuperate some dignity. It would have been fine for this challenge, but things feel tense, so he can agree with it being too light hearted for them. Particularly since Ash always seems to win no matter what he does.]

Alright. ...We probably shouldn't leave the area. Maybe there's something else we can do with these cards.

[They are paper, and it feels like it's been a long time since he's even seen any of that. But there's no writing utensils still, so after a moment, he comes up with]

Paper cranes?

What are those? [ He settles easily enough into conversation now that it's been establish that they won't be doing the charades. ]

It's this trend my friend Hyungsik showed me. You fold a piece of paper into the shape of the crane, and they say if you fold a hundred of em' with messages inside, your crush will ask you out first....

[he tries to start making one to show him out of the top of the deck. Hopefully the Overseer doesn't mind these cards getting folded up!

After finishing the explanation though, Yoosung smiles sheepishly, since Ash isn't really into this sort of thing.]

.... basically, it's something simple that will still look romantic on television.

Are you saying ice fishing is romantic? [ He is following along, though! ]

Maybe they just counted the part where you were having mimosas.

[Trevor looked really damn happy with those mimosas. A good editor could make it work, maybe. But Yoosung will not be going with that this time.

Anyway, there are a freaking ton of steps to making a crane, as it turns out. He's just demonstrating right now, but once he finishes the origami, it has been like 3 minutes. After that, he shows Ash the little bird sitting cupped inside both his hands.]

What do you think? I could teach you how to make it, or we can figure something else out.

That was Travis, not me! [ He still doesn't really know what a mimosa is, but he tasted it and it had alcohol, so he decided to drink something else. ]

If we're gonna make a hundred of 'em, we better get moving. [ Sure why not, it's not like he has any better ideas. ]

[He can't believe the Mibrosas were a lie... is nothing sacred in this place? Also has he been remembering Travis's name wrong the entire game!? Yoosung is just going to move on from this topic after looking a little awkward. He sets the first crane down and hands Ash one of the cards.

Okay, follow along...first you fold diagonals to make an x.... then...

[Yoosung's fingers are making various creases across the paper, each motion an equal measure of careful and gentle. At one point he mumbles about a Superman Logo but by now he has figured out the others here won't get pop culture.]

Bend the corners at the sides... at this point it kind of looks like a frog's mouth, [He opens up the "mouth."] The next part is one of the hardest. How's it looking so far?

[ It's fine Ashme is spacey sometimes. Anyway he's doing fine until about halfway through? That's a lot of steps and he looks like he loses patience at some point. ]

This is so long...do these things have actual skills attached to them?

[starswink]

"Actual" skills? Um... Are you asking me if the confession thing is real?

[folding the paper well is a tangible skill, and so is patience, but.]

That would be a skill probably, yeah. [ Is he asking about that specific one? Probably not, but still. ]

[it's the only potential skill he mentioned so!!]

Mm... well, there's a lot of testimonials online that say it works, but I doubted it too. Still, I helped Hyungsik fold them and read his messages.... It was so surprising how heartfelt they could be. I'd maybe believe that level of focus on your crush could also transmit your feelings.

It's way easier to just ask someone out than do all of this. Or tell them you like them. [ Yes, he's whining. But he is still making an attempt while doing so. ]

[He's whiny, but he's got a point... Listen though, Yoosung is still going to teach him how to make this thing. Besides, some people are just harder to approach.]

Umm... then those things wouldn't make a good challenge, would they?!

[He will hurry and teach him the tricky part before he can challenge him to ask anyone out. It involves pulling part of the paper up and back, making a tall diamond-like shape.]

[ Thinks about this for half a second. Shrugs! ]

Is asking someone out a challenge or not? [ At least he didn't go there yet. Also he's stuck on the tricky part so this is not helping his focus. How is he supposed to just get this tail up!?!? ]

I was just trying to follow your logic there! I mean, it's not technically hard, but it's tougher to do the more you care about the result - jeez this paper is not bending right, lemme help?

[It makes matters a little worse that the paper is a bit more stiff than is ideal, so he will reach over and try to help him flatten it inward. Their fingers probably brush, but sooner or later they'll get it up!!

But Yoosung is still thinking about the challenge of confessing. Once he can resume showing steps, he eases into the topic again.]

...It's like LOLOL. It's easy to just play the game if you're only having fun. But if you get addicted, then you really want to win. You want to know your odds, look up strategy, and spend lots and lots of time on clearing the dungeon with a good score!

[He's proud of this analogy and smiles pretty brightly when he talks about it. Though, when he thinks about his own score in comparison to dating, his face immediately falls again.]

But even then, you can still wind up #2 on the ranking. So it's a big challenge.

[ If it helps, he doesn't recoil when their fingers brush, though he is grumbling the whole time. Silly origami. ]

I guess, but doesn't that mean you should just ask if you're gonna come in second even after all that work?

H... Huh? [THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS IN THE VIDDY GAME! Also, he thought he already asked! He's taken off guard by that.]

But first I have to put in the work... right?

[It's not that he thinks origami is how to do it. It just came to mind with what they had in front of them, and Ash hasn't even finished ONE. Why is he so impatient?!

Also, he just realized he slipped a personal pronoun in, so he is swallowing hard after that. But he can't help but assume a high risk after all the times he's heard it won't work out as he is now.]

[ Honestly he's not sure if they're talking about a boardgame (what is a videogame?) or dating anymore, he's really not thinking too hard. ]

Just do what you want and be you! Anything else is too much work. [ Is that encouragement? Who knows. And there, he's done with this lumpy looking origami, one down! ]

[starswink]

Eheh! That advice is as simple as it gets. ["Be yourself"... it's probably a cliche for a reason. He feels a little braver for hearing it though. Even if Ash's signals are always confusing, the lumpy little bird makes him smile. But he still hears that 'too much work.']

...We don't really have to make a hundred, I guess.

[They can do whatever they want.]

Well yeah, why complicate things if you don't have to? [ It goes along with his mentality of not doing something if it's not worth it for him, either. ]

What, do you wanna do something else?

I don't wanna bore you. [He thought everything between them was more awkward, so they should just do something they can do individually, but he feels a little better now.]

...And honestly, I dressed like this cause I thought they'd make us go ice skating. I was just talking about that with Diamond the other day too, so I kinda want to try.

[gilden]

If you were boring me I'd just leave. [ And he's still here, so that is that. There's a heavy sigh at the ice skating, though. ]

You should go with Diamond, except they can't do things like this anymore, huh? [ Another sigh. ]

I hate the cold... [ Here is where a better person says "But I'll do it for you.", or here is where someone slaps him upside the head for being like this. Unfortunately, neither of these things happen. ]
